In short

Micron announced its exit from the Crucial consumer brand on 3 December 2025 and shipments ended in February 2026. Existing warranties are still honoured. What remains on shelves is legacy stock, so the practical question is what replaces each model, by segment, at today's prices.

A row with no price is an item we track that has no current Amazon.com offer. We leave it in place rather than hiding it, so you can see the whole set we follow. 14 listings are marked: a seller other than Amazon or the brand asking more than 25% above the cheapest Amazon-sold price at the same capacity. They are shown but not ranked on price, because that is not the same offer.

What changed and why

Micron announced on 3 December 2025 that it was exiting the Crucial consumer brand, and shipments ended in February 2026. This was a business decision about channel economics rather than a problem with the products: Micron continues to supply NAND and DRAM to the enterprise and OEM markets, where margins are better and where AI demand has made every wafer more valuable. Selling finished consumer drives became the least attractive use of that capacity.

The timing is not a coincidence. The same shortage that pushed retail SSD prices up made consumer retail the lowest-margin thing a memory maker could do with its output. Crucial was the most visible casualty, but the underlying pressure applies across the industry, which is worth remembering before assuming a replacement brand is permanently safe.

For an owner, nothing changes. Micron has stated that existing warranties continue to be honoured, the drives are unaffected, and there is no firmware cliff. There is no reason to replace a working Crucial drive early, and if you have one in a mirror it will keep doing its job.

Buying one now is a different question. Remaining stock is legacy inventory: no new production runs, no hardware revisions, and a shrinking pool if you later want a matching drive for a mirror or an identical replacement for an array. At a genuine clearance price that can still be a good buy, because the drives themselves are unchanged. At full price it rarely is, because you are paying current money for a line with no future.

Who it hits, and how hard

Gen5 flagship buyers lose the T705 and T710 and have the most alternatives: the Samsung 9100 Pro and WD Black SN8100 occupy the same position, and the Kingston Fury Renegade G5 uses the same SMI SM2508 controller family that the T710 did.

Mainstream Gen4 buyers lose the T500, which was one of the better value drives with a DRAM cache. The WD Black SN7100 and Samsung 990 EVO Plus are the closest equivalents; the Lexar NM790 is cheaper but makes different trade-offs.

Budget buyers lose the P3 Plus. This segment has the fewest good options, because DRAM-less drives compete almost entirely on price and the price floor moved. The Kingston NV3 is the direct equivalent.

SATA buyers lose the MX500, which is the most painful one. That segment has very few remaining options because most makers have moved volume to NVMe, and the Samsung 870 EVO is effectively the last mainstream choice standing.

What to do now

  1. Keep any working Crucial drive you own. Warranties are honoured and the hardware is unaffected.
  2. Register your proof of purchase if you have not, since a warranty runs from manufacture otherwise.
  3. Buy remaining stock only at a genuine clearance price, not at full price; check against the live table above.
  4. Match the replacement by segment, not by benchmark rank, using the table above.
  5. Compare the candidates on equal endurance terms with our DWPD calculator.
  6. If you need a matching drive for an existing mirror, buy it now rather than later: legacy stock only shrinks.
  7. Check the live per-terabyte ranking on our SSD price page before committing.

Outlook

Micron has given no indication of returning to consumer retail, and the economics that drove the exit have not changed. Treat the Crucial consumer line as closed rather than paused.

Questions

Is Crucial really discontinued?

Yes. Micron announced its exit from the Crucial consumer brand on 3 December 2025 and ended shipments in February 2026. What remains on shelves is legacy stock with no further production runs behind it and no hardware revisions coming. Micron's enterprise and OEM memory business is entirely unaffected and continues as before; it is specifically the consumer retail drive line that closed. The timing was not coincidental: the same shortage that pushed retail SSD prices up made consumer retail the least profitable use of a wafer, and Crucial was the most visible casualty of that arithmetic.

Will my Crucial SSD warranty still be honoured?

Yes. Micron has stated that existing warranties continue to be honoured, and the drives themselves are entirely unaffected by the brand being wound down. There is no firmware cliff, no loss of support for a drive already in service, and no reason to replace a working Crucial drive early. Keep your proof of purchase and register it if you have not already, because a warranty otherwise runs from the date of manufacture rather than the date you bought it, which can quietly cost you several months of cover on a drive that sat in a distributor's warehouse.

Should I buy the remaining Crucial stock?

At a genuine clearance price it can be a reasonable buy, since the hardware is unchanged and the warranty stands. At full price it is not: you are paying current money for a product line with no future revisions and a shrinking pool if you later need a matching drive. Check the live table above rather than assuming the price is a discount.

What replaces the MX500?

The Samsung 870 EVO is the direct equivalent in the SATA 2.5-inch segment, and it is effectively the last mainstream option still standing. That part of the market has thinned out badly, because most makers have moved their volume to NVMe where margins and demand are both better. If you specifically need SATA, whether for an older laptop, a machine with no M.2 slot or a drive bay in a NAS, buy sooner rather than later: this is a segment contracting for structural reasons rather than cyclical ones, and it is unlikely to recover.

What about Crucial memory modules?

The exit covers consumer SSDs specifically. Crucial-branded memory modules are a separate question, though the Crucial Advisor configurator has also effectively gone, and that loss matters more than it sounds: it was the most widely used tool for answering what RAM physically fits a given laptop or mini PC, and nothing has replaced it. When you see a Crucial CT-series part number in a compatibility list, read it as a discontinued consumer brand rather than a current product. Our RAM part number decoder covers the same ground for the vendors that still publish a scheme.
