Principle: no tracking cookies, no user profiles
This website sets no cookies for analytics or advertising. We use no Google Analytics and no other third-party analytics tool. A single technical cookie is set only when the operator signs in to the internal statistics area; for ordinary visitors no cookie is created.
First-party, cookieless measurement
To understand which pages are used, we record the following in our own database: the page requested, the time of the request, the referring site (hostname only, e.g. google.ca), the country, the device type (desktop, mobile, tablet) and the browser family. To distinguish repeat visits within a single day we form a salted, daily-rotating hash from the IP address and browser identifier.
Importantly: the IP address itself is not stored. The IP cannot be recovered from the hash, and because the salt changes daily, recognition beyond that day is impossible. No lasting user profile is created. If your browser sends the "Do Not Track" signal, no measurement takes place at all.
Clicks on affiliate links
When you click an Amazon affiliate link, we record which destination was clicked from which page. Here too we store no personal data.
Amazon Associates
We participate in the Amazon Associates program. Product links on this site point to amazon.ca and carry our associate tag. When you follow such a link, Amazon's privacy policy applies; Amazon may set cookies and process data, over which we have no control. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases; there is no extra cost to you.
Google AdSense
This website embeds Google AdSense, a service of Google. AdSense may set cookies and transmit data to Google in order to serve ads and measure their performance. You can turn off personalized advertising in your Google Ads settings.
Server logs
This website is delivered over the Cloudflare network. When a page is requested, Cloudflare processes technically necessary connection data to enable delivery and to defend against attacks.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, as well as the right to complain to a supervisory authority. Because we store no personal data that can be attributed to a specific individual, we generally cannot tie a request to a single person.
