Choose your NAS calculator
Work out usable capacity, fault tolerance and memory — cross-vendor, with honest TiB numbers and the cost to fill in Canadian dollars from live Amazon.ca prices.
What this site does
The vendor calculators are locked to their own brand: Synology shows you SHR, UGREEN shows you standard RAID, and neither tells you what the decision actually costs. Here you compute cross-vendor, for the same set of drives, with every RAID type side by side — and you see at once how much capacity a rigid RAID 5 gives up with mixed drives. The stronger general tools are not localized for Canada; we are, with prices in CAD from Amazon.ca.
Two things we do on purpose. First, we count honestly in TiB: 4 × 8 TB is not 24 TB but 21.8 TiB, and that is the number your NAS shows later. Second, we are not a price comparison site — the aggregators do that well. We answer the questions before that: how much space is left, how many drives you need, and which drive is even allowed in your device.
Best NAS drives by price per TB in Canada
Only families with confirmed CMR recording and a 24/7 rating, in stock on Amazon.ca, priced in CA$/TB. SMR drives are deliberately absent: they do not belong in a RAID array.

Plex server builds
Two ready-to-shop Plex NAS builds, priced live from Amazon.ca in CAD. Quick Sync does the transcoding in both — the budget N100 for 1080p and light 4K, the DXP4800 Plus for concurrent 4K remux.
