The DS925+ is a 2025 DiskStation Plus model, so it is subject to the 2025 drive policy — but in your favour after the update. Synology initially required Synology-listed drives to create a storage pool; DSM 7.3 (October 2025) restored unlisted hard drives and 2.5-inch SATA SSDs for new pools on these DiskStation Plus models. M.2 NVMe still requires a Synology-listed drive (unlisted NVMe shows as "Unverified"). The stricter list-lock that remains applies to RackStation Plus and enterprise-series models, not this DiskStation. Confirm your exact drive on Synology's per-model compatibility list before buying.
