When to choose Red Pro over Red Plus
Red Pro adds what a demanding NAS wants: 7200 rpm for higher sustained throughput, a 550 TB/yr workload rating (three times Red Plus), and a 5-year warranty. That combination suits a NAS several users hit at once, a business that needs the uptime, or a large array where a fast rebuild matters.
For a home file server, Red Plus is enough and quieter; the Pro premium is best spent when the workload or the capacity genuinely calls for it. Above 14 TB, Red Pro is also simply where WD's larger capacities live.
Red Pro vs IronWolf Pro
Both are 7200 rpm, 550 TB/yr, 5-year CMR drives: very evenly matched. Seagate's IronWolf Pro includes Rescue data recovery; WD's Red Pro is often a touch quieter and runs cooler in some reviews.
