What drives work with a UGREEN NAS?
Standard 3.5-inch SATA CMR NAS drives: UGREEN NASync units do not require branded or proprietary drives. Use IronWolf, WD Red Plus/Pro, Toshiba N300 or enterprise CMR drives, and check capacity against UGREEN's compatibility documentation. Many models also take 2.5-inch SATA SSDs and M.2 NVMe. Avoid SMR drives for RAID.

UGREEN's NASync line uses standard drives with no proprietary lock: one of its selling points against the 2025 Synology restrictions. Any 3.5-inch SATA CMR NAS drive is fair game.
What to use
- 3.5-inch CMR NAS HDDs: Seagate IronWolf, WD Red Plus/Pro, Toshiba N300, the mainstream choice for bulk storage.
- Enterprise CMR HDDs: Seagate Exos, WD Ultrastar; cheapest per terabyte if you accept the noise.
- SSDs: most NASync models also take 2.5-inch SATA SSDs and M.2 NVMe for cache or fast volumes.
What to avoid
SMR drives in a RAID array: same rule as any NAS, since SMR stalls rebuilds. Confirm your specific capacity against UGREEN's compatibility documentation, which lists tested drives per model.
Availability note
UGREEN NAS hardware itself may have limited Canadian retail availability; the drives, however, are the same standard CMR NAS drives sold everywhere. The table lists in-stock CMR drives by price per terabyte.
